Amount of Megapixels: Many people are confused into thinking that the more megapixels a camera has, the better the camera or picture will be, but this is not necessarily true. A 10 megapixel camera may produce sharper, crisper and better pictures than a 12 megapixel digital camera. When looking for a digital camera you should choose a model with 8 megapixels or more. But don't get sucked in by the more megapixels the better, hype. Canon for example have released some new cameras with lower megapixels than their previous versions.

Camera Size: Compact digital cameras come in many different sizes and thicknesses. Before you buy one it is important to decide what you want to use it for. I would always recommend having a spare one, as they have a tendency to go flat just when you need them most.

Canon Digital IXUS 95 IS Digital Camera in Silver - Compact Camera Review

Being a DSLR camera user you may be wondering why I also use many point and shoot camera systems. The simple reason is that even though my DSLR camera is amazing it can be heavy especially with all the different lenses I use and flash guns and other accessories also add to the weight issues, on top of that someplace won't even allow a DSLR camera and for this reason I bring along a point and shoot camera which is also known as a compact camera or digital camera.

I got my hands recently on the Canon Digital IXUS 95 IS digital camera in silver and was quite impressed with it. The Canon IXUS 95 is has a 10MP count and has an optical zoom of 3 times.

When I first started using the camera I found that the image quality was excellent but the colours looked a little dull and completely ruined the photos that I had taken, however I soon realised that this was my fault and when I began to look at the settings on the camera I soon got the camera to take the images that I wanted. Simply changing a few of the settings allowed me to make the colours completely pop out creating an excellent image.

If you are thinking of getting the IXUS 95 then I would recommend you putting the shooting mode on "program" setting the ISO to 100 or even 80 and then setting the colour mode to vivid and set to single shot mode, this will allow quicker focusing and sharper images.

Another added extra with this camera is the ability to put the grid mode on the back of the large LCD screen, not only will this allow you to take straight photos but it will also let you improve on your composition skills.

The camera also has built in image stabilisation which is found on more expensive DSLR cameras, this allows you to take photos without any camera shake which can be caused by cold hands or bad nerves.

The Canon IXUS 95 also has the ability to record video and it does it fairly well; however in dark conditions you will notice the video to be a bit grainy, however I would be surprised if you could find a camera for this price which doesn't have this problem. If your main reason for purchasing this camera is to record video I wouldn't buy this camera and I would try something else, however if you want to take cool photos with vibrant colours then the Canon digital IXUS 95 IS camera is a good choice.
